Title I Compact

Overview

Minnequa Elementary and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high academic standards.


Miinnequa Elementary will:

Provide a high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:

  • AVID System
  • A safe and engaging learning environment that incorporates PBIS, No Bully, and RethinkEd Social-Emotional Curriculum
  • Data-Informed Instruction
  • Extended Learning Opportunities include but are not limited to STEM, cooking, sewing, basketball, chess, design, technology, Lego clubs, Random Acts of Kindness, Student Ambassadors, Destination Imagination, dance, art, photography, gardening, choir, and more. These opportunities change every 4 weeks and may or may not include the aforementioned clubs.
  • Personalized, blended learning opportunities that allow students to grow at their own pace
  • Professional Learning Communities will ensure that teachers are prepared for instruction aligned to state and national standards, assessment data  is analyzed to examine trends and determine next steps, and instructional adjustments are made to ensure every child learns at his maximum potential.
  • Project-Based Learning, Engage New York Math, Engage New York ELA (K-3), Expeditionary Learning ELA (4-5)
  • Math and reading intervention – Sipps, iStation, 2Partner Mathmatics, and much more. 


Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.  Specifically, those conferences will be held:

  • During October .
  • Mid-Quarter grade checks at 4-5 weeks.
  • During the assessment days in August 2024


Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.  Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:

  • DIBELS Home Connect reports
  • IStation Reports
  • Online access to students’ academic progress via Infinite Campus Parent Portal
  • Quarterly report cards
  • Response To Intervention parent communication
  • Communication folders


Provide parents with reasonable access to staff.  Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:

  • Family Engagement Nights
  • Monthly calendars/newsletters
  • Parent meetings upon request
  • Parent-Teacher Organization meetings
  • School and/or classroom phone messages
  • Class DOJO


Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows:

  • Complete volunteer background check
  • Hold Parent, Teacher, Community organization meetings on the first Tuesday of every month from 3:30-4:30 in the Media Center. During these meetings, we discuss and plan for fund-raisers, carnival, school improvement, and Title I planning.
  • Involve parents in the annual planning, review, and improvement of the School Parent Involvement Policy
  • Make arrangements with the classroom teacher for a time and specific volunteer activities
  • Make arrangements with the counselor for time and specific volunteer activities
  • Make the School Parent Involvement Policy, school Newsletters, and informational literature available in the front foyer and on Class DOJO
  • Sign-in and wear a volunteer badge at all times

 

Parent Responsibilities

We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

  • Monitoring attendance
  • Making sure that homework is completed
  • Attend parent nights, conferences, and parent meetings concerning your child
  • Communicate with the school whenever there is a concern to build a partnership between school and family
  • Monitor grades/attendance by using the parent portal
  • Understand and follow the commitments agreed to in the Innovation commitment form

 

Student Responsibilities

We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the state’s high standards.  Specifically, we will:

  • Do my homework every day and ask for help when I need to
  • Believe that we can achieve high standards and work towards
  • Be respectful to all adults and their peers
  • Strive to earn a 3.0 or better GPA
  • Striving for 95% attendance
  • Understand and follow the commitments agreed to on the Innovation commitment form

Title One Programs and Plan

  • Inform parents about goals and purposes of Title I, curriculum used in Title I programs, academic assessments used to measure student progress, and proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
  • Involve parents in the planning, review, and improvement of Title I programs at school.
  • If the Title I Plan is not satisfactory to the parents, submit parent comments on the plan to the district.
  • If requested by parents, provide opportunities for regular meetings where parents may offer suggestions or ask questions.
  • Provide timely responses to parent’s suggestions/questions.
  • Provide assistance to parents, as appropriate, in understanding assessments, Title I requirements, monitoring academic progress, and how to work together to improve student achievement.
